This is my album to listen to to escape from emotionally straining events or to just lift my mood up for the morning. This album leaves me breathless with it's soulful beauty, warm melodies and joyous mood. That said, I have come here to say that "Breathless" is very true to it's title.

Granted, I certainly don't understand how they could categorize him with classic jazz artists like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie, and others because Kenny G cannot be compared to the former. I am appalled at the extremely high number of negative reviews that I have been reading on all of the product pages on this saxophonist. The saxophonist himself programmed many of the drum, bass and keyboard parts on Breathless, contributing to the sense that everything's running on autopilot. The titles of Kenny G's instrumentals on are a good clue to his approach: "Sentimental," "The Joy of Life," "Forever in Love" and "The Wedding Song." Sentimental, in the sense of simplifying life to a set of comfortable feelings, is a good adjective for Kenny G's music, for even his wordless instrumentals push the listener's warm glow buttons while ignoring anything more complicated. When it comes to background music that's slightly catchier and peppier than most new age music, Kenny G is a master of his genre.

This album is built on Kenny G's most obvious strengths: his knack for writing hummable pop hooks and his ability to play those radio-friendly melodies in a breathy, fluid style that invites the listener to lie back and relax. 100% Indie Jazz.Like its predecessors, Kenny G's latest album, Breathless, is a collection of tuneful, easy-listening instrumentals baited with a couple of pop-soul vocal numbers.

  • Mavis Staples & Levon Helm - "You Got To Move" If you like back ground music, or music that's not to exciting, I say explore away, but For me, I can't even relax to this music, The whole time I am comparing it to challenging music I typically listen to, even as commercial music, Breathless fails, with not much of a blues base, even the slightest blues fire could have lifted this music up a notch to my ears, But Kenny sure is a rich guy, more power to him. If you ever get a chance to hear Pat Metheny's thoughts on Kenny G, do your self a favor, and Google it, I enjoy Pat's rants on Kennny more than Kenny's music itself, though Pat does come off as a bit bitter, sort of reminds me of Wynton Marsalis and his criticism of the electric music of Miles Davis, Probably doesn't help Pat's ego, knowing that Breathless has probably sold more than every album Pat has ever made. I listened to the YouTube videos of this album, No way would I let Breathless sit next to any Miles Davis or John Coltrane Albums, that would be sacrilege indeed, Kenny isn't really a bad saxophonist though, there is some talent there, and his tone isn't that bad either to my ears, but the boring, syrupy new age beats, and tepid synthesizers are what do me in, this would be great music to sleep to, in fact I was drinking a double espresso while listening to it. In fact Kenny has sold over 75 million records world wide, 75 Million!
